When Shopify wins
If you sell products and want to worry about technology as little as possible, Shopify is built for you. Payments, inventory, shipping, and security are built in and maintained by Shopify. When WordPress wins
If your site is about services, knowledge, portfolio, or local findability, WordPress gives you more freedom and better control over your SEO. You are not locked into a store structure and can shape the site exactly the way you want. The trap: building on the wrong platform
Most regret comes not from a bad platform, but from the wrong choice for the situation. A service business with a heavy webshop setup that never sells anything. Or a webshop on WordPress that gets stuck on payments and inventory while Shopify had that ready out of the box. So do not choose based on what you happen to know, but on what you are going to do with the site.
Why maintenance counts
